The story behind the brand…

In December 2020,one of my longest childhood friends was diagnosed with ovarian cancer… Fast forward to the 1st of August 2023, after 3 years of fighting one of the hardest battles of her life, she peacefully passed away surrounded by all her family and loved ones.

Elissa was a little ray of sunshine! She was so thoughtful and caring of others, I guess that’s what made her the perfect nurse. Even when she would be at the hospital receiving her chemo treatments, she would always be walking around and asking all the other patients how they were and if they needed anything like a tea or coffee. Elissa was always putting everyone else first!

On top of caring for the world and fighting cancer, Elissa took an interest in doing lashes and started her own lash business in 2021, calling it Black Label Lashes. I remember when she first started it, she was absolutely obsessed with the name and was so proud of herself! I was so proud of her! She absolutely loved doing lashes and really took pride in her work but as her cancer progressed, she was no longer able to have the steady hand required to continue doing her lash business and that broke her heart.

Sadly Elissa also left behind her 10 year old son Chase, her best friend. Even when the end was nearing, the only thing she was focused on was making sure she had all she could planned out for his future. She never strayed from that or lost sight of that.

I have wanted to start an apparel brand for quite some time now and I thought there was no better time than now to start it and give it a useful purpose! Do good, be good.

In honour of my friend Elissa, I used part of her business name (Black Label Lashes) and incorporated it into the clothing brand, (Black Label Clothing Co). That way a part of her can continue to live on in the world.

ALL profits from any type of sale for the duration of this business venture will also go directly to Elissa’s son Chase! Hopefully this little venture can grow into something half decent and maybe when Chase is old enough, he can take it over as a hobby and call it his own if he wishes to do so.

But for the meantime - I just want to make cool stuff and do some good while doing it.
